This festival is celebrated in Punjab during the harvesting period. On this day the Rabi crop is dedicated to the fire and thanks to the Sun God and Agni. On this day, farmers wish for the progress of the crop.

Significance of Lohri Geet:

Songs are considered to be of great importance in Lohri. A new energy and a wave of happiness runs in the mind of people with these songs. This festival is celebrated by dancing with songs. In these cultural folk songs, there is a description about happy crops etc. Punjabi warrior Dulla Bhati is also remembered by the song.

Lohri Festival History and Story:

Based on the Puranas, it is celebrated every year by remembering it as the renunciation of Sati. According to the legend, when Prajapati Daksha had despised Shiva, the husband of his daughter Sati, and for not including her mother-in-law in the yagya, his daughter surrendered herself to the fire. The same day is celebrated every year on Lohri as a repentance and for this reason, gifts are given to the married daughter of the house on this day and she is honored by inviting her for food. In this happiness, makeup items are distributed to all married women.

There is also a historical story behind Lohri which is known as Dulla Bhatti. This story belongs to the reign of Akbar, in those days Dulla Bhatti was the chieftain of Punjab province, it was called the hero of Punjab. In those days there was a place called Sandalbar, which is now part of Pakistan. There used to be a market for girls. Then Dulla Bhatti opposed this and respectfully saved the girls from this misdeed and got them married and gave them a dignified life. On this day of victory, Lohri songs are sung and Dulla Bhatti is remembered.

Due to these mythological and historical reasons, the festival of Lohri is celebrated with gaiety in Punjab province.
