Mother Parvati is the incarnation of Shakti. Besides being thewife of Lord Shiva, she is also the mother of Lord Kartikeya and Lord Ganesha.

Mother Parvati was the daughter of King Daksha Prajapati in her previous birth, and in that birth also she was the wife of Lord Shankar. Her name was Sati, in the yagya of her father Daksha Prajapati, unable to bear the insult of her husband, Sati had burnt herself in the yagya fire. Mata Sati had taken a vow while sacrificing her body that she would appear again on this earth and would become Lord Shankar’s consort in that birth also. Then she was born as Parvati in the house of the mountain king Himalaya. Being the daughter of Parvat Raj, she was called‘Parvati’.
